Park Young-sun and Woo Sang-ho together with the Democratic Party mayor of Seoul by-election primary candidates hit the other party’s core pledge in the first live TV debate on the afternoon of the 15th. Candidate Sang-ho Woo’s ‘160,000 public housing units’ was said to be “Seoul, which is likely to suffocate,” while candidate Park Young-sun’s ’21 minute compact city’ said, “Would it be a great transformation in Seoul or a great chaos in Seoul.”
The keynote of the’quiet contest’ between the two candidates who have refrained from fighting, saying that they are’sister’s younger brother’, seems to be taking a fierce battle from this day.

Candidate Woo opened the gun. Candidate Woo said in a TV debate on preliminary candidates for the Mayor of the Democratic Party of Seoul hosted by MBC that night, “What is the relationship between (Candidate Park’s) vertical garden city, which makes roads underground by pouring huge national taxes, and makes parks on top of them? He criticized it as “a pledge not like the Democratic Party.”
“It may be possible to build a vertical garden in Yeouido or Gangnam, but it is questionable whether it can be built in the Gangbuk area,” he said. “It is better to spend the tax on a more decent place.” The vertical garden is a landmark of Candidate Park’s ’21 minute compact, 21 multi-nuclear cities’. Candidate Woo added, “When political leaders obsess over landmarks, very difficult things happen,” he added. “I don’t think that the vertical garden (Candidate Park’s) is a magic bat that can solve all the workplace, housing, and environment.”
He continued to criticize Park’s real estate pledge. Candidate Woo said, “As the election began, opposition candidates are asking for permission to redevelop the Gangnam area, and Park also said that he would allow the reconstruction and redevelopment of Gangnam.” It was questionable that he asked to allow it.” He also pointed out that “there is a problem in the credibility of the policy,” he said, “the fact that candidate Park reflects on his approval of the 52-hour bill in the past and that he will introduce the 4.5-day system this time.”
In the meantime, Candidate Woo emphasized that he was a pro-common candidate. “The most differentiating thing about the Democratic Party is that it is a pro-common policy,” he said. “I live in a house with a deposit of 400 million won and a monthly rent of 500,000 won, my sister do business in Sillim-dong, and my brother grow peaches in Jecheon. “A candidate to do.”

Candidate Park, who has the upper hand in various opinion polls, seemed to put more weight on defense rather than attack on the whole that day. However, when the talk of ‘160,000 public housing units’, which is candidate Woo’s core pledge, came out, he said, “If I imagine this pledge, it feels like Seoul will suffocate.”
Candidate Park said, “I took Manhattan, New York as an example, and said that I would build a high-rise apartment on the riverside road, but the situation is different between Manhattan and Seoul,” he said. “It’s not a problem because Manhattan is a high-rise building, but Seoul has Namsan, so the skyline This is important” he pointed out. Candidate Park criticized that “a well-designed city should have a view right by building houses from the riverside and then raising them in turn, but it will be Seoul that is likely to suffocate if the promises of Candidate Woo are followed.”
Candidate Park said, “The 21-minute compact city I proposed was not suddenly created. There is a 9-minute city of Barcelona, the mayor of Paris, and the market is also a 15-minute city of Paris,” he said. “From a car-centric city to a people-centered city, Seoul We have to make a big change.” “There are many places in the Gangbuk region where you can create vertical gardens (in addition to Yeouido and Gangnam),” he said. “We will give priority to homeless people, essential workers, young adults and newlyweds to live in vertical gardens.”
Regarding the point that the reconstruction permit for Gangnam is contrary to the Moon Jae-in government’s stance, Candidate Park said, “We will create 21 green multi-nuclear cities like Gangnam and create a city where everything can be solved within 21 minutes without having to go to Gangnam.” The answer is also in a compact city in 21 minutes,” he refuted. About the 4.5-day week system, he said, “A lot of ICT SMEs already have a 4-day system a week. This is a feasible thing.”
Meanwhile, the TV debate for the Mayor of Seoul Mayor of the Democratic Party will be held two more times on the 17th (Yonhap News TV) and the 25th (KBS). When the period for the primary election ends on the 25th, the Democratic Mayor of Seoul candidate will be finalized on March 1.
