On the 7th, Democratic Party member Woo Sang-ho launched the’Integration with the Open Democratic Party’ card as the number of wins for the Mayor of Seoul candidate in the party. When it was evaluated that Park Young-sun, former Minister of SMEs and Startups, is making a conscious move based on the superiority of public opinion polls, Rep. Woo pulled out an integrated card to penetrate the traditional supporters of passports. In addition, it is interpreted that against the unification of opposition candidates being promoted by Ahn Chul-soo, Na Gyeong-won, and Oh Se-hoon, etc.

On the same day, Rep.Woo met with the Seoul Mayor Chung Bong-ju, a preliminary candidate for the Open Democratic Party, at the Assembly Hall of the National Assembly, and then announced an agreement that contained “agreement on unification of candidates based on consolidation” and “promotion of integration procedures through voting of former party members.” It is a step further than the’promotion of unifying candidates’ agreed with the Open Democratic Party member Kim Jin-ae on the 12th of last month. Rep. Woo argued, “Forget about the past trivial wastes and hold hands in the big frame,” he argued, “as opposition parties are pushing for the unification of political and engineering candidates, so integration should be promoted with the desperate (passport).”

Rep. Woo’s move of’progressive integration’ is interpreted by the ruling party as a strategy aimed at a reversal in the contest of ‘50% party members + 50% general voters’. In an opinion poll released by Sisa Journal and Chowon C&I on the 5th, former Minister Park was found to win both bilateral and trilateral confrontations against candidates Ahn Cheol-soo and Na Kyung-won. There are many other public opinion polls that only take former Minister Park as the ruling party candidate. In order to utilize the organizational power, which is his strong point, Congressman Woo has to block the’pisoring effect’ (the band wagon effect, the phenomenon of supporting people who seem to be dominant) that the public opinion formed by the public opinion polls affects the party’s heart. “If public opinion that only Park Young-sun can win,” a Seoul member of the lawmaker said, “If the public opinion continues, members of the general party will give their hands to the general public opinion,” and “Rep. Woo will have to show competitiveness in the investigation after the Lunar New Year holiday.” Rep. Kim Jin-ae pointed out on Facebook, “It’s weird why Congressman Woo doesn’t attack former Minister Park. Be tougher.”

Rep. Woo is trying to differentiate himself from former Minister Park in order to overcome the inferiority in popularity. On the 7th, he said, “We will continue and develop the labor-respecting metropolitan policy that the former Mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon has advocated.” It announced’Labor Policy’, “I will increase the effectiveness so that it touches the skin of workers and citizens.” Rep. Han Jung-jin interpreted it as “the intention to embrace the supporters of the Justice Party who decided not to make a candidate for the Seoul mayor,” and “it emphasized the point that only Congressman Woo is the only one who will firmly implement the progressive policy.”

On the other hand, former Minister Park seems to continue to take the initiative while weakening the frame set by Congressman Woo. He visited Magok district in Gangseo-gu on the 7th and said, “(Single painter) the sooner it is better. I met former lawmaker Jeong Bong-ju and said,’Let’s work together, let’s do good’ about the mayor of Seoul, and today’s meeting is an extension of that. said. By emphasizing that he has already talked about the unification and integration of pan-passports, it is interpreted as emphasizing the fact that the Woo’s strategy is not new. Former Minister Park focused on promoting the ’21 Minute Compact City,’ a key pledge on this day. He promised to visit Magok district in Gangseo-gu to designate this area as a digital innovation district and to attract research and development data centers. This is the second ’21 Minute Compact City’ experience event following Chang-dong, Seoul on the 31st of last month.
