(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Hana Jang and Youngshin Kim = Hyundai Motor Company[005380]Samsung Display’s organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display will be included in the first dedicated electric car Ioniq 5, which is an ambitious work of Samsung Display.

The industry is paying attention to whether cooperation between Hyundai Motor Group and Samsung will expand with this opportunity.

According to the industry on the 28th, Hyundai Motor Company will apply a new side mirror system to Ioniq 5, which first applied E-GMP, an electric vehicle platform.

A side mirror that uses a regular mirror like a conventional vehicle is standard, but a function that uses a side view camera instead of a side mirror will be provided as an option.

When this function is selected, the occupant will check the surrounding screen shot by the camera on the indoor display instead of the actual mirror.

It is known that the indoor display to which Samsung Display’s OLED will be applied will be placed on the top of the driver’s seat and passenger seat doors.

Earlier in July last year, Audi’s first electric vehicle sports utility vehicle (SUV), the e-tron 55 quattro, was applied for the first time in mass-produced cars. The OLED display mounted on the e-tron is also a product of Samsung Display.

An industry insider said, “We know that Samsung Display has already taken the lead in the automotive OLED display market, and it has excellent technological prowess so that it fits the requirements of Hyundai Motor Company.”

As the side view camera function is optional, the quantity itself may not be much, but the industry is paying attention to the cooperation between Hyundai Motor Company and Samsung.

Although the products of Harman, a electronics company that Samsung acquired in 2017, are part of Hyundai Motor Company, there has been virtually no heavy business contract between Hyundai Motor Company and Samsung. It is known that this is the first time Samsung Display also signed a contract to supply 8-inch LCD for navigation in 2011.

Especially last year, Jaeyong Lee, Samsung Electronics[005930] As meetings between the vice chairman and Hyundai Motor Group chairman Eui-sun Eui-sun were promoted one after another, there is a growing expectation that such cooperation will expand further in the future.

Prior to that in May last year, Chairman Chung[006400] Vice-Chairman Lee visited the Cheonan Plant to discuss all-solid-state batteries, and two months later, in July of the same year, Vice-Chairman Lee visited Hyundai Motor’s Namyang Research Center to cooperate in various fields of next-generation mobility such as electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and urban aviation mobility (UAM). I looked for a room.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be released sequentially in Korea and the US starting in Europe in March. Ioniq 5 can drive up to 500km or more (based on WLTP) on a single charge, and 80% of it can be charged within 18 minutes when using an ultra-fast fast charger with an 800V charging system.
