It is interpreted as a strategy to quickly occupy the gap in the market through a mid-to-low price model with good cost performance (price/performance). As demand for pent-ups in the smartphone market is expected this year and demand is expected to increase, attention is focused on whether Samsung Electronics, which has been holding the throne of the global smartphone market for several years, can solidify its No. 1 position with the Galaxy A series.

Samsung'Galaxy A'first unpack today... Investment in the mid- to low-end market

Samsung aims at the mid- to low-end market

Samsung Electronics will hold’Samsung Galaxy Awesome Unpacked’ online at 11 pm on the 17th. In this event, a new model of the Galaxy A series will be unveiled. This is the first time that Samsung is holding a global unpack event for mid- to low-end models. It is also unusual to hold an unpack event in just two months after the release of the Galaxy S21 series in January.

The reason Samsung Electronics is focusing on the Galaxy A series is that the importance of mid- and low-priced smartphones is increasing day by day. Demand for entry-level models with reasonable price points is increasing every year, centering on Gen Z and emerging Asian markets that value cost-performance. According to market research firm Omdia, six out of ten smartphones that sold the most in the global market last year were identified as mid- to low-end phones such as iPhone SE and Galaxy A51 and A21s. In the domestic market, the sales of the Galaxy A31 also surpassed the Galaxy Note 20.

“Recently expanding the 5G mid-to-low price smartphone lineup is a global trend,” said Park Jin-seok, a researcher at Counterpoint Research. “Competitors are strengthening the lineup, such as Apple is expected to release the popular’iPhone SE+ (tentative name)’ in the second quarter of the year. It seems that Samsung also felt the need for an active response.”

In particular, Samsung Electronics has been aggressively pouring out mid- and low-priced smartphones since the beginning of the year, and has been closely closing the lineup. Following the Galaxy A12 last month, the Galaxy A32 and A42 5G were launched simultaneously on the 12th. If you add two new products that are expected to be released on this day, it means that five A-series will be introduced in the first quarter alone. It is read as a strategy to lead the market while overcoming competitors’ initiatives. The industry sees that the Galaxy A-series plays a big role in Samsung’s top position in the global smartphone market for several years.

The reinforcement of mid- to low-priced phone products is the U.S. sanctions against Huawei, which has disrupted the smartphone business. LG has stopped pursuit of Chinese companies such as Oppo and Vivo, which are taking advantage of Huawei’s gaps in the smartphone business as an opportunity to expand their market share, and declaring the withdrawal of the smartphone business in effect. It is also a strategy aimed at the former vacancy.

Galaxy A52·A72, 500,000~600,000 won

On this day,’Galaxy A52′ and’Galaxy A72′ are expected to be released at Unpack. Both products are released in two models, LTE and 5G, and the expected shipping price is in the 500,000~600,000 won range. In particular, Samsung Electronics supported a number of functions that have been installed only on flagship products such as waterproof and dustproof functions and high refresh rate, so that although it is a mid-to-low price lineup, it has secured specifications that are comparable to premium class.

If you put together the information that has been released so far, the front design of both products is the same. In common, a flat Infinity-O display with a punch hole on the top is applied, and quad (4) cameras with a main wide angle of 64 megapixels are expected to be mounted on the rear and a 32 megapixel camera on the front. In addition, the application processor (AP) is also equipped with Snapdragon 720G for LTE models and Snapdragon 750G for 5G models. The Galaxy A72 is expected to be capable of 3x optical zoom and up to 30x space zoom on the camera.
