Samsung Electronics announced the 2021’Neo QLED’ that applied mini LED technology. In addition, while introducing’micro LED’ and new lifestyle TV products, it also presented a vision of’screen for all’ that emphasized people-oriented technology.

Samsung Electronics held the’Samsung First Look 2021′ event online on the 6th (U.S. local time). Samsung First Look is an event that Samsung Electronics has been running for 9 years to introduce new technologies and new products related to TV every January and share the future display direction.

■ First unveiled’Neo QLED’ TV with mini LED technology

At this event, Samsung Electronics unveiled the 2021’Neo QLED’ TV that evolved from the existing QLED for the first time.

Neo QLED realizes image quality differentiated from existing products through three changes.

The first is the application of’Quantum Mini LED’, which has implemented more elements by realizing one-forty times the size of the LED element used as a backlight. In addition, a’micro layer’ is applied to the LED device to reduce the size of the device and to control the light more precisely.

The second is’Quantum Matrix Technology’, which finely adjusts the brightness of the quantum mini LED used as a backlight up to 12 bits (4,96 steps). In addition, through the backlight power control, power is efficiently distributed to the backlight according to the screen brightness. More local dimming zones are finely adjusted to achieve industry-leading contrast and black details.

The last is the’Neo Quantum Processor’, which applies a new learning-type AI upscaling technology composed of 16 neural networks to realize the highest levels of 8K and 4K resolution, respectively, regardless of the quality of the input image.

In addition, it analyzes the three-dimensional effect and black details of the screen input through’Deep Learning’ and further enhances the image quality dramatically.

New Samsung Neo QLED products will be released in 8K and 4K, and will be introduced to the global market in the first quarter.

■’Micro LED’ 110 type unveiled…99 type will also be announced from March to April

Samsung Electronics introduced the 110-inch micro LED TV, which was first unveiled in Korea last month, to the global market through Samsung First Look.

In March-April, the 110-type and 99-type products are scheduled to be released sequentially in the global market, starting with Korea, and smaller 70-80-type products are planned to be introduced within the year.

Micro LED TV is a next-generation screen incorporating the best display technology in existence, and is a product that received the highest innovation award at CES 2021.

Micro LED is the only product in which each element emits both light and color on its own, unlike conventional TV displays, using micro-LEDs in micrometer (㎛) units, and you can experience the natural image quality like seeing real objects.

In particular, because it is an inorganic material, it boasts excellent durability without fear of deterioration or burn-in.

■ Introducing new lifestyle TV products such as’The Frame’ and’The Premier’

Samsung Electronics has built a lifestyle TV lineup that reflects consumer trends such as’The Frame’,’The Serif’,’The Vertical’,’The Premier’, and’The Terrace’ and created a new market.

In particular,’The Frame’ that transforms your home like a museum and’The Premier’, which provides the best home cinema experience, won the Innovation Award at CES 2021, proving the excellence of Samsung Electronics’ lifestyle TV.

‘The Frame’ expands the range of consumer choices by reducing the thickness to half compared to the previous one and increasing the bezel type to two and five bezel colors to harmonize with the interior of various spaces this year.

In addition, it increases the number of famous art works to more than 1,400 and recommends various works to consumers through AI-based curation.

■ Presenting a’screen for all’ vision focused on people and the environment

Jong-hee Han, president of Samsung Electronics’ video display division, revealed his vision to contribute to creating a sustainable future as well as providing the best screen experience as an industry leader through Samsung First Look.
