Samsung Electronics surpassed Apple and recaptured the top smartphone in February Effect of the Galaxy S21 release

In February, the first month of the Galaxy S21 release, Samsung Electronics surpassed Apple and retaken the No. 1 position with a difference of 1 percentage points.

According to market research firm Strategy Analytics (SA) on the 28th, in February this year, Samsung Electronics sold 24 million units in the global smartphone market, ranking first with a 23.1% share.

Apple sold 23 million units, ranking second with 22.2% of the market share. This was followed by Xiaomi (11.5%), Vivo (10.6%), and Oppo (8.5%).

Samsung Electronics has regained the No. 1 position it gave to Apple in January thanks to the effect of the Galaxy S21 launch. In January of this year, Apple’s market share was 25.4%, ahead of Samsung Electronics (15.6%).

Samsung Electronics, while aiming for the Huawei void, defended its market share by releasing the Galaxy S21 earlier than usual. Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new Galaxy S series in mid-February and officially released it in March, but this year, it introduced a new product in January and released it in February.

However, in terms of sales volume growth, Apple was bigger than Samsung Electronics.

Apple’s February sales increased 74% compared to February last year, and 35% compared to February 2019. On the other hand, Samsung Electronics’ February sales volume increased by 26% compared to February of last year and 12% compared to February of 2019.

Meanwhile, the global smartphone market in February increased by 25% compared to February of last year, and the level in February 2019 was slightly above the level, recovering to the level before Corona 19.
