Supply of base stations required for 5G commercial network construction
KDDI, the No. 2 communication service provider, also secured customers
NTT DoCoMo has about 82 million subscribers

Samsung Electronics announced on the 23rd that it has signed a 5G mobile communication equipment supply contract with NTT DOCOMO, the largest mobile communication service provider in Japan. This is the first time that Samsung Electronics directly supplies mobile communication equipment to NTT DoCoMo.
With this supply contract, Samsung Electronics secured NTT Docomo as a 5G customer following KDDI, the second-largest telecommunications service provider. This expanded its presence in the Japanese 5G mobile communication market. NTT DoCoMo has about 82 million subscribers as of December last year. Since March of last year, it has been providing commercial 5G mobile communication services.
Samsung Electronics plans to support rapid 5G network construction by supplying base stations (RUs, Radio Units) necessary for building 5G commercial networks to NTT DoCoMo.
