Samsung Electronics announced on the 23rd that it has signed a 5G (5G) mobile communication equipment supply contract with NTT DoCoMo.

This is the first time that Samsung Electronics directly supplies mobile communication equipment to NTT DoCoMo. Samsung Electronics will supply base stations (RUs) necessary for building 5G commercial networks to NTT DoCoMo and plan to support rapid 5G network construction.

With this supply contract, Samsung Electronics secured NTT Docomo as a 5G customer following KDDI, Japan’s second largest telecommunications service provider, and expanded its presence in the Japanese 5G mobile communication market. NTT DoCoMo is Japan’s largest mobile service provider with about 82 million subscribers as of the end of 2020. Based on mobile service sales (2019), it is ranked 5th in the world with Verizon in the US, China Mobile in China, AT&T in the US, and T-Mobile in the US It is a telecommunications service provider. In particular, NTT DoCoMo is a company that has led the establishment of global mobile communication standards such as Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Long Term Evolution (LTE). Famous. Satoshi Iwao, executive vice president of network business at Samsung Electronics’ Japanese subsidiary, said, “We will continue to expand our position in the global mobile communication market by providing the best network solutions based on the best technology in the industry.”

With this contract, Samsung Electronics is being evaluated as having confirmed its unrivaled technological prowess in the 5G market by entering all the networks of the No. 1 telecommunications companies in Korea, the United States, and Japan in the 5G mobile communication market.

Earlier, in September last year, Samsung Electronics signed a long-term network equipment supply contract with Verizon, the world’s No. 1 telecommunications service provider in terms of mobile telecommunications sales, worth 7.900 trillion won ($6.64 billion). This is the largest Daning export contract in the history of the Korean communication equipment industry.

Recently, it has succeeded in winning orders for new network equipment from global telecommunications companies such as Videotron, Canada, Telus, Sasktel, US Cellular, and Spark, the largest telecommunications operator in New Zealand.

“This agreement between NTT DoCoMo and Samsung Electronics is significant,” said Stefan Pongraz, an analyst at market research firm Del Oro. “NTT DoCoMo is a company with a history of leading innovative technologies.
