Samsung Electronics signs a 5G supply contract with Japanese telecommunications company NTT DoCoMo

This is the first time that Samsung Electronics directly supplies mobile communication equipment to NTT DoCoMo.

With this supply contract, Samsung Electronics is expected to secure NTT Docomo as a 5G customer following KDDI, the second-largest communication service provider, and expand its position in the Japanese 5G mobile communication market.

Samsung Electronics will supply the base station (RU, Radio Unit) necessary for the construction of 5G commercial network to NTT DoCoMo, and will support rapid 5G network construction.

NTT DoCoMo Radio Access Network Development Department said, “As a leading provider in the mobile communication field, NTT DoCoMo aims to provide customers with more innovative and exciting experiences and provide the best service that solves social issues. “We will expand’Lightning Speed ​​5G (5G) like the speed of light’ nationwide through cooperation with Samsung Electronics in the 5G field,” he said.

Satoshi Iwao, Senior Vice President of Network Business at Samsung Electronics Japan, said, “We will do our best to contribute to accelerating 5G innovation of NTT DoCoMo.” “We will expand our position in the mobile communication market.”

Meanwhile, NTT DoCoMo has about 82 million subscribers as of December 2020, and has been providing 5G mobile communication commercial services since March 2020.
