Accounting for 73%

Seven of the 10 foldable phones to be sold this year were surveyed as Samsung Electronics brands.
On the 23rd, a market research firm Counterpoint Research revealed that Samsung Electronics recorded 73% of the world’s 2.8 million foldable phone shipments this year.
In the first half of this year, Samsung Electronics released the Galaxy Z Flip, which lowered the price and enhanced portability, and last September released the Galaxy Z Fold 2, the sequel to the Galaxy Fold. The high price of foldable phones and the consumer’s resistance to consumption due to Corona 19 showed limited growth.
By region, they accounted for 55% of total sales in Europe and Korea, and 25% in China. It is analyzed as a reflective profit for Huawei of China, which has disrupted product production due to US sanctions. Huawei released its first foldable model, the Mate X, at the end of last year. Subsequently, in March this year, the sequel, Mate Xs, was released, but as it was hit hard by US sanctions, it was difficult to continue developing flagship models including foldable phones.
“Samsung is in a very advantageous position compared to other companies in terms of supply and demand for foldable display panels, which is a key component,” said Lim Soo-jeong, a researcher at Counterpoint Research. The foldable phone market share is likely to rise next year,” he predicted.
The foldable phone market next year is expected to grow more than double this year. It is expected to achieve rapid growth in 2022. The market is expected to grow to about 17 million units. Chinese OEMs, including Xiaomi, are expected to enter the market.
