Samsung Electronics’ major executive salaries more than doubled

Samsung Electronics' major executive salaries more than doubled

It was found that the annual salaries of major executives at Samsung Electronics last year more than doubled compared to 2019.

According to the 2020 business report released by Samsung Electronics on the 9th, Kim Ki-nam, vice chairman of the DS (semiconductor parts) division, received 8,274 billion won last year. It is more than twice the remuneration in 2019 (3.45 billion won). Ko Dong-jin, president of the IM (IT and mobile) division,’s remuneration last year was 6.72 billion won, more than double the previous year’s (2.83 billion won). Kim Hyun-seok, president of the CE (consumer electronics) division, received 54.57 billion won last year. President Kim Hyun-seok’s 2019 salary is 2.58 billion won.

Kwon Oh-hyun, who left his business last year, received 17.2 billion won, including severance pay. Among the former and current employees of Samsung Electronics, the pay was the highest. Advisor Yoon Buk-geun also added a total of 1,527 billion won, including 6 billion won in retirement allowance, and Shin Jong-gyun added 5.9 billion won in severance pay for a total of 1,327 billion won. Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong has not received salaries from Samsung Electronics since February 2017.

Last year, facility investment amounted to 38.5 trillion won. Compared to the previous year, it increased by 11 trillion won. It is the largest since 2017 when the semiconductor boom was 43.4 trillion won. It is analyzed that the effect of the transition to advanced processes and plant expansion is large.

Last year’s R&D expenditure recorded 21.2 trillion won, an increase of 1 trillion won compared to 2019. The number of employees in Korea was a total of 109490, the highest level ever. A total of 4,233 employees increased from the previous year, mainly in the DS (semiconductor parts) sector.
