Samsung Electronics launches’Isocell HM3′, a premium image sensor with 180 million pixels – Samsung Newsroom Korea

Samsung Electronics has released the’Isocell HM3′, an image sensor of 180 million pixels, which is more perfect with advanced high-sensitivity shooting technology.

‘Isocell HM3′ is Samsung Electronics’ third-generation 0.8㎛ (micrometer, 1 millionth of a meter) image sensor after HMX and HM1. This product has accumulated 180 million pixels in a ‘1/1.33 inch’ size.

This product is equipped with Samsung Electronics’ own camera technology such as’Smart ISO Pro’ and’Super PD Plus’, so it is possible to take high-quality pictures as if they were touched by experts anytime, anywhere.

‘Smart ISO Pro’ is a high dynamic range (HDR) technology that amplifies light with different ISO values and synthesizes them in an environment where bright and dark areas are mixed, such as the exit of a tunnel.
※ ISO: It is called’sensitivity’ and indicates how sensitive it is to light. If the sensitivity is low, it reacts insensitively to light, but the picture quality is improved. On the contrary, if the sensitivity is high, it reacts sensitively to light, but noise occurs.

The existing HDR technology, which shoots multiple times at different times, can cause the movement of a subject to appear as an afterimage, while’Smart ISO Pro’ is a technology that uses the difference in image capture sensitivity, so it can minimize afterimages.

In the’Smart ISO Pro’ mode, a richer color expression is possible because it shoots in 12 bits (68.7 billion colors), which expands the color expression range by about 64 times more than the existing 10-bit (1.07 billion colors).

Samsung Electronics is also equipped with’Super PD Plus’ technology, which is equipped with a micro lens optimized for’Isocell HM3′. Even in dark environments, it can detect the focus 50% faster than before, so you can shoot images without blur.

In addition, according to the amount of light, 9 adjacent pixels are grouped together to enhance color reproduction and noise suppression technology has been added to improve sensitivity by up to 50% compared to the previous one.

In particular, Samsung Electronics has made efforts to minimize the energy required for product use by reducing the preview mode operating power by about 6% compared to the previous version by optimizing the design of’Isocell HM3′.

Deok-Hyun Jang, Vice President, Sensor Business Team, System LSI Division of Samsung Electronics said, “Samsung Electronics continues to release products beyond customer demand through continuous innovation to improve image sensor performance in addition to pixel integration technology.” Is a key solution for next-generation mobile devices as the crystallization of Samsung Electronics’ image sensor technology incorporating the latest camera technology.”

Samsung Electronics is currently mass-producing’Isocell HM3′.
