Samsung Electronics launches new SSD with 6th generation V-NAND

Samsung Electronics is launching a new SSD (Solied State Drice) new product’NVMe SSD 980′ and is leading the’SSD popularization’.

On the 10th, Samsung Electronics announced on the 10th that it will release a new SSD for consumers based on the NVMe interface that has the latest 6th generation V-NAND and has a continuous read/write speed of up to 3500MB/s and 3000MB/s.

The NVMe protocol applied to this product can achieve up to 6 times the continuous read speed of the existing SATA. Random read/write performance is 500K IOPS (I/O processing speed per second) and 480K IOPS, respectively.

Samsung Electronics applied HMB (Host Memory Buffer) technology that directly connects the DRAM and SSD installed in the PC to this product.

This technology also contributed to cost reduction by not installing DRAM inside the SSD.

Samsung Electronics also secured stable product performance by improving the intelligent turbo light function that optimizes performance according to the workload and applying thermal control technology such as high-end products.

It also emphasized the eco-friendliness of’NVMe SSD 980′, such as improving power efficiency and minimizing carbon emissions. The new product has improved power efficiency by up to 56% compared to the previous NVMe SSD lineup, ‘970 EVO’.

This product is available in three models, 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB, in more than 40 countries around the world, including Korea, the United States, Germany, and China, and is priced at $49.99, 69.99, and 129.99 dollars, respectively.

Lee Gyu-young, executive director of the brand product marketing team at Samsung Electronics’ memory division, said, “Through this new product that has both performance and economy, we will increase the accessibility of high-performance storage for consumers and lead the popularization of NVMe SSDs.”

Samsung Electronics, which started mass production of the 6th generation V-NAND-based high-performance SSD PM9A3 E1.S for data centers last month, is strengthening its SSD product line with the 6th generation V-NAND through the launch of this new product.

Accordingly, it is expected that Samsung Electronics will strengthen its SSD marketing in the future and actively pursue’popularizing SSDs’ in the future.
