[에너지경제신문 여헌우 기자] Samsung Electronics showed its will to continue the super gap in the memory semiconductor field with the development of the 4th generation 10-nano-class DRAM and 7th generation V-NAND this year. In the foundry division, it announced plans to enter mass production of 5 nanometers and 3rd generation products.

Kim Ki-nam, the head of DS division of Samsung Electronics (Vice Chairman), explained the management status at the 52nd general shareholders’ meeting held at the Suwon Convention Center on the 17th and made this statement.

Vice Chairman Kim said, “Last year, products such as DRAM, NAND, DDI, and OLED led the market with the No. 1 market share.” We are strengthening and preparing for the future.”

Vice-Chairman Kim explained that this year’s memory will focus on expanding the technology gap in the front-end process with the development of the 4th generation 10-nano class DRAM and the 7th generation V-NAND. In addition, he emphasized that it will secure leadership by differentiating products to preoccupy high-growth markets such as data centers and HPCs.

The foundry (consignment production of semiconductors) plans to mass-produce the 3rd generation following the 2nd generation of 5nm, and reinforce the leadership of ultrafine process technology of 3nm or less by developing GAA (Gate All Around), a next-generation transistor structure.

On this day, about 900 shareholders attended the site, which is twice the level of last year. This year, an electronic ballot terminal was provided to participating shareholders so that they could vote on all agendas instead of’passing applause’.

Samsung Electronics held a shareholder meeting last year only on the third floor (3040㎡) of the Suwon Convention Center, but this year, considering that the number of shareholders has increased by four times from last year, it has rented to the first floor (7877㎡). Only 1200 seats were placed in a space with an area of 7,000 or more.

It also features an online relay system and pre-online questioning. Executives of Samsung Electronics, including Vice Chairman Kim Ki-nam, answered not only the shareholders who attended the meeting, but also the shareholders’ questions posted on the online bulletin board. The company did not disclose the number of shareholders who watched the online broadcast at the general shareholders’ meeting.

The shareholders’ meeting, which started at 9 am, ended in about three hours. All major agendas, including the appointment of outside directors and special dividends, were approved according to the original draft.
