Despite the massive spread of Corona 19 last year, Samsung Electronics recorded an operating profit of 2.4 trillion won in the display business. This is an increase of 41.77% compared to the previous year.
On the 28th, Samsung Electronics announced through the Financial Supervisory Service’s electronic disclosure system that it recorded sales of 30.59 trillion won and operating profit of 2.4 trillion won last year in the display (DP) business division. This is a 2% decrease in sales and 41.77% increase in operating profit compared to the previous year.
In the fourth quarter of last year, the company announced that it recorded 9,96 trillion won in sales and 1.7 trillion won in operating profit. This is a 24% increase in sales and 695.45% in operating profit compared to the same period last year. Compared to the previous quarter, sales and operating profit increased by 36% and 272.34%.
By division, in the case of small and medium-sized divisions, it is analyzed that earnings improved significantly QoQ due to strong demand from major customers. The large division seems to have narrowed QoQ due to continued demand for TV and monitor panels due to the expansion of non-face-to-face services and rising average panel selling prices.
Samsung Electronics explained, “The display business in the fourth quarter achieved the highest quarterly performance due to recovery in demand for major products such as smartphones and TVs.”
Samsung Electronics expects that the performance of the display business in the first quarter of this year will lead to improvement in the performance of the smartphone market’s demand recovery following the recovery of Corona 19.

An official from Samsung Electronics said, “In the first quarter, small and medium-sized displays are expected to see a decrease in performance compared to the previous quarter due to a decrease in demand from major customers, but the utilization rate is expected to improve compared to the same period last year as the number of OLED adoption models by major customers increases. In preparation for the release, we plan to respond to LCD demands of some customers without any problems.”

In addition, “In this year’s small and medium-sized display business, OLED panel demand is expected to increase due to the full expansion of the 5G smartphone market and the recovery of smartphone demand.” In preparation for the full-fledged growth of the product market, we plan to improve technology completion and cost competitiveness. In the large-scale display business, we plan to develop differentiated technology QD displays in a timely manner and establish a premium market base through customer diversification.”
