S-OIL Science and Culture Foundation, 30 physical and chemical researchers funded

The S-Oil Science and Culture Foundation (Chairman Baek Woon-gyu), a public interest foundation, held an awards ceremony and delivered a total of 375 million won in research funding to 30 researchers in physics and chemistry.

On the 16th, S-OIL held an awards ceremony for the 10th S-Oil Excellent Thesis Award and the 2nd Next Generation Scientist Award at the headquarters in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Since 2011, S-OIL has been operating the S-OIL Science and Culture Foundation, an independent foundation for support in the pure science field, which is rare for private companies.

This year, S-OIL awarded 138 million won in research funding to 12 young scientists and 12 advisors who were selected as excellent dissertations in the six science fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, life science, chemical engineering, materials engineering, and IT. · It was decided to provide KRW 240 million to six middle-sized researchers who were selected as next-generation scientists in six fields of physiology, chemical engineering, material engineering, energy, and IT.

Thesis awards include ▲ Mathematics: Dr. Jeong-min Jeon (Seoul National University), who studied Hulbert’s response variables ▲ Physics: Dr. Kang-won Kim (Seogang University), who studied Raman spectroscopy of two-dimensional antiferromagnetic materials ▲ Chemistry: Dr. Seung-yoon Hong, who studied the development of transition metal catalysts (KAIST) ▲ Biology: Dr. Da-Seul Yoo (KAIST), who studied protein function within cells through the development of antibody optogenetics technology ▲ Chemical Engineering/Materials Engineering: Dr. Sang-Seok Lee (KAIST), who studied microfluidic encapsulation and application ▲IT: Dr. Seung-Hwan Baek (KAIST), who studied computational imaging using light wave characteristics, was selected and delivered 15 million won for each research fund.

Thesis Excellence Awards include Dr. Jongho Park (Mathematics Science, KAIST), Dr. Seongmin Park (Physics, Seoul National University), Dr. Sunghee Bae (Inorganic Chemistry, Ewha Womans University), Dr. Yohan Kim (Clinical Science, Hanyang University), and Dr. Sangmyeon Lee (Energy Engineering, UNIST), Dr. Kwon Ki-rim (Electrical and Electronic Engineering, KAIST) was selected and delivered 8 million won each.

The awards for the next generation of scientists include ▲Physics: Dr. Seongwoong Kim (Sungkyunkwan University), who developed a new concept of electron-carrying magnet material, ▲Chemistry: Dr.Mihee Lim (KAIST), who succeeded in finding the linking elements of multiple risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and suppressing toxicity ▲Physiology: GPCR is G protein Dr. Ga-young Jung (Sungkyunkwan University), who announced the results of the research on the bonding principle ▲Chemical Engineering/Materials Engineering: Dr. Jongmin Koo (KIST), who contributed to solving the environmental pollution problem through waste plastic recycling technology ▲Energy: Jonghyuk Park, who studied the production of next-generation solar hydrogen Doctor (Yonsei University) ▲IT: Dr. Seongjae Kim (Seoul National University), who developed a small-scale desalination device and applied it to a portable artificial kidney, awarded a total of 40 million won.

Hussein Al-Katani S-Oil’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said, “The future of science in Korea is bright because there are people who have been recognized worldwide for their research with academic passion in the field of basic science. We will continue to support so that we can do it.”
