Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov officially visited China today (22nd) for two days at the invitation of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Officer and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

China’s Foreign Ministry said Lavrov and Wang Yi will hold talks during this period to discuss bilateral relations and issues of joint regional and international concerns.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that maintaining close communication between the two ministers is essential to promoting a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

In particular, he said, “This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Sino-Russian Goodwill Treaty.

Prior to his visit to China, Lavrov said in a video interview with local media, “It is wrong to punish someone on the current international arena.”

In addition, he said in response to the sanctions, Russia and China should step up cooperation on “immediate ending of unilateral coercion” under the framework of the United Nations.

“We need to reduce the risk of sanctions by strengthening technological independence by switching to payments in national or international currencies, which can be used instead of dollars,” Labrov added.

Minister Labrov will visit Korea from the 23rd to the 25th following China.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Minister Labrov and Foreign Minister Eui-yong Chung will meet on the 25th to exchange opinions on bilateral relations, issues on the Korean Peninsula, practical cooperation, and international issues.
