The US CNBC reported that Ethereum, the second largest cryptocurrency in transaction volume, exceeded $1700 for the first time in history.

According to CoinDesk on the 6th (local time), at 10:30 am, Ethereum soared 11.2% to $1743 from 24 hours ago. This is the first time that Ethereum has surpassed $1700. Ethereum’s market capitalization (number of coins x price) reached 1937 billion dollars, further solidifying its second place in the market cap.

Bitcoin, the number one virtual currency in the market cap, also rose significantly on the same day, surpassing the 40,000 dollar mark. Bitcoin traded for $45,578, up 6.59% from 24 hours before the same time. It is approaching the record high ($42,000) recorded on the 8th of last month. The Bitcoin market cap was estimated at $733.7 billion.

With both Bitcoin and Ethereum rising, the total market cap of the cryptocurrency market exceeded $1.2 trillion. It is also a record high.
