Serbia and World Cup qualifiers declared no goal

Portugal drew 2-2 in the second leg of Group A of the 2022 Qatar World Cup European qualifying match Serbia held in Belgrade, Serbia on the 28th (Korea time).

In the second half of the match against 2-2, Portuguese captain Ronaldo witty footed the cross from the left. The ball rolled into the Serbian goal, and Serbia Stefan Mitrovic chased it and cleared it with a tackle. The ball appeared to have passed the goal line on the broadcast screen, but the referee declared no goal.

Goal line technology and video readings are not used for this competition. Ronaldo was warned after protesting against the referee. Enraged Ronaldo threw the captain’s armband to the floor and exited the ground. After the game, a reaction came out on social media, saying,’Ronaldo was stolen by the goal.’

Portugal lead the first half with a multi-goal by Diogo Jota (Liverpool), but scored two goals in the second half to draw a 2-2. Portugal scored one win and one draw alongside Serbia, but fell behind many points to finish second in the group.

Ronaldo wrote on Instagram after the game, “The Portuguese captain is one of the great honors and privileges of my life. I will always do my best for my country, and I will never change. However, there are times when it is difficult to cope with. This is especially the case when you feel that the country has been harmed. But let’s look up and prepare for the next challenge.”
