[엑스포츠뉴스 김희웅 인턴기자] Juventus were eliminated in the round of 16 due to a mistake by Champions League god Cristiano Ronaldo.
Juventus defeated FC Porto 3-2 in the 2nd leg of the European Football Federation (UEFA) Champions League in the 2nd leg of the 2020/21 season held at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Italy at 5 am (Korean time) on the 10th. The total score was 4-4, but Porto advanced to the quarterfinals according to the principle of many points away.
Both teams did not retreat. The first team that laughed was Porto. In the 19th minute of the first half, Sergio Oliveira scored a penalty goal for Porto to take the lead. However, Juventus led Federico Chiesa to extend the match by scoring multiple goals only in the second half.
The overtime was absolutely in favor of Juventus. Porto’s Mehdi Tarimi was sent off due to a cumulative warning in the 9th minute of the second half.
However, in the 10th minute of the second half, Porto scored a goal that ended the game. It was a bit far away, but Oliveira smashed it under the Juventus defensive wall. Juventus immediately caught up with Adrian Ravio’s header goal, but needed one more goal to advance to the quarterfinals. There was not enough time, and in the end, I dropped my head.
In fact, Oliveira’s goal shattered the joys of both teams. Oliveira was well kicked, but Juventus’ poor defensive wall was a problem. Alvaro Morata, Ronaldo, and Ravio three stood on the wall, and all turned their backs at the moment Oliveira kicked. The low kick passed between Ronaldo’s legs and sucked in.
After the game, the Daily Mail of the British media quoted a comment from Fabio Capello, an expert in’Sky Sports Italy’. Capello saw Ronaldo turning his back during commentary and said that it was an “unforgivable mistake.”
“No one could fear the ball when they stood on the defensive wall when I was in charge of it,” Capello said. They were frightened by the cheeks and turned their backs. It is unforgivable.”
Ronaldo’s former colleague and BT sports commentator Rio Ferdinand also said, “All three (who made up the wall) made mistakes. I turned and jumped. It was all errors,” he said.
