On the 12th, Reuters reported that a firearm was fired during the dissolution of a protest against the coup held in Molamin, a coastal city in southeastern Myanmar, citing the current media’s SNS video. According to the video, when the police rushing toward the protesters caught one, the protesters threw rocks, and then at least six gunshots rang, the news agency said. However, it is not known whether the fired gun was a live ammunition.

It was only three days after the police fired a gun at the protesters. Earlier on the 9th, in the capital Naepido, a female protester was shot in the head by the police and is in critical condition.

Myanmar’s military government took power in a coup on the 1st for the reason that the government did not investigate even though serious corruption occurred in the general election in November last year. Until this day, protests against the coup continue in various places, including Yangon, the largest city on the 7th day.

Meanwhile, supporters of Aung San Suu Kyi’s national adviser are calling for strong international action against the military. After the US announced the first sanctions, the European Union (EU) lawmakers are also urging their own governments to take action, and the international community is making a move. It is argued that stronger measures are needed in order to allow for recognition.
