Residents of Siheung and Gwangmyeong new towns poured out complaints about the allegations of speculation by some of the Korean Land and Housing Corporation (LH) employees.

On the 5th at 2:00 pm, the’Siheung Gwangmyeong New Town Countermeasures Residents’ Information Session’ was held at the wastewater treatment plant in Siheung City, Gyeonggi Province. About 100 residents attended the briefing session held by the New Town Countermeasure Committee. Kim Yeon-gyu (75), chairman of the countermeasures committee, said, “I cannot but resent the allegations of speculation by LH employees,” and insisted that “this cannot happen and the state should thoroughly stop it.”

Kim Mo (63), a resident who attended the briefing session, said, “I was born here and have endured a lot of disadvantages to protect the land, and now I am in a situation where I will be forced into prison.” I tried to make a lot of unfair advantage in a day,” he criticized. He then urged, “We must confiscate the unfair benefits of LH employees and punish them severely.”

The Residents’ Countermeasures Committee explained the government’s business plan and suggested that “residents should receive considerable compensation for the development of the new city,” and “let’s gather the opinions of the residents as one.” The Task Force announced that it would ask the government to expand railroad networks such as the GTX-G line, prepare public rental housing for residents’ migration, and prepare measures for corporate migration in the region.

Meanwhile, Nam-gyu Seon (63), chairman of the Landlord Emergency Response Committee in Siheung Gwangmyeong Special Management Area, who attended the briefing session, said, “The speculation of LH employees has damaged the legitimacy of the new city development plan.” And private development should take place,” he insisted. He announced that he plans to file an administrative lawsuit along with the Cheong Wa Dae national petition to prevent the development of the new city of Siheung Gwangmyeong.
