Change of nationality without completing social service

It was reported that Lin Xiaojun (Korean name Hyojun Lim), who was naturalized to China, changed his nationality without completing social service following military service exceptions.

On the 19th, the Sunday newspaper reported that Lin Xiaojun was naturalized to China without completing his military service.

Lin Xiaojun was awarded a gold medal at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics held in 2018 and became a target for military service exceptions.

According to the current military service law, athletes who have won medals at the Olympics must perform basic military training for 2 years and 10 months in their field of community service.

Lin Xiaojun lost his Korean nationality in June of last year. It has been about a month since he was sentenced to a fine in the first trial of a junior sexual harassment case.

Lin Xiaojun is reportedly worried about the situation that he will not be able to participate in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics due to discipline.

However, according to the three-year probation rule of the Olympic Charter, if an athlete changes their nationality and competes in the Olympics, it is stated that at least three years must pass from the last match, so despite naturalization, participation in the Olympics is unclear.
