Hyundai Motor Company (005380)Luxury brand Genesis recalls 95,000 units including the G70 and G80 sedans sold in North America. This is because the possibility of fire has been confirmed due to a defect in the anti-lock brake system (ABS). This is the same reason that Kia recalled 380,000 units such as Sportage and K7 (American name Kadenza) earlier, and plans to recall the same model in Korea.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on the 19th, Genesis has 94,646 units, including the 2015-2016 Genesis sedan, the 2019-2021 G70, and the 2017-2020 G80 sold in North America.

According to NHTSA, a fire was found due to a faulty electrical circuit in the electronically controlled hydraulic unit (HECU) in the engine room of the vehicle. HECU is a device that integrates vehicle control functions such as an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and vehicle body stabilization electronics (ESC) while driving. As the inside of the ABS is corroded, there is a possibility that a fire may occur due to a short circuit. Genesis recommends parking the vehicle outdoors or away from other vehicles before the recall. Genesis plans to inform drivers of the vehicle until early May.

Hyundai Motor Company reported a domestic recall plan for the same vehicle to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and is known to proceed with the recall soon.
