10 domestic private companies, including SK, Hyundai Motors, Hanwha, and Hyosung, will actively respond to the government’s carbon neutral policy and form an’energy alliance’ to support the energy conversion policy, and begin full-fledged activities.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 6th, 10 private companies, including the Hyundai Economic Research Institute and the energy industry, held an inauguration ceremony for the’Energy Alliance’ at Lotte Hotel in Seoul on that day and signed a mutual cooperation business agreement.

The inauguration ceremony included Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction President Jeong Yeon-in, DL Energy Vice Chairman Kim Sang-woo, SK E&S Vice Chairman Yu Jeong-jun, E1 Chairman Koo Ja-yong, GS Energy President Yoo Yoo-soo, POSCO Energy President Ki-seop Jeong, Hanwha Energy President Jeong In-seop, Hyundai Economic Research Institute President Yong-Seok Kim, Hyundai Motor Vice President Song Won-pyo. Top executives from 10 participating companies, including the vice president of Hyosung Heavy Industries, attended.

Industry Minister Sung Yun-mo was also present to encourage the energy industry to challenge carbon neutrality.

The’Energy Alliance’, which was launched this time, was born after a gathering of major private energy companies from the beginning of this year with the aim of jointly responding to related policies and contemplating business strategies in line with the global trend of decarbonization.

This is the first time that Korean private energy companies have created a voluntary community regarding carbon neutrality.

Participating companies agreed to join the government’s carbon neutral policy in the future and cooperate in pursuing rational energy conversion for the common benefit of sustainable national economic development.

In addition, it plans to increase its member companies targeting energy companies that agree with the purpose of establishing the alliance.

Hyundai Economic Research Institute Director Yoo Yong-seok said, “To implement carbon neutrality, new governance is necessary, such as establishing a resonant ecosystem of the energy industry led by the private sector and presenting a vision that considers both growth and environment.”

He then emphasized, “The Energy Alliance should become a corporate council leading the carbon neutral era in 2050 with the new governance goals and mission.”

In a congratulatory remark, Minister Sung Yun-mo said, “The energy alliance will be the center of the future so that effective and market-friendly policies can be prepared for carbon-neutral response and energy system innovation. I will deliver it to the government without addition or subtraction.”

He added, “Let’s make a new opportunity by proactively preparing and proactively responding to the challenge of carbon neutrality”.
