The Hydrogen Convergence Alliance Promotion Group (H2KOREA), Korea Gas Corporation, Korea Gas Safety Corporation and the Environment Foundation held the ‘2021 Green Hydrogen Forum’ founding event at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul on the 2nd, with the participation of the National Assembly, industry, academia, research and civic groups. The Green Hydrogen Forum was initiated as a follow-up measure to the 1st Hydrogen Economic Committee and was launched to promptly revitalize the industrial ecosystem and expand public acceptance.
The forum plans to discuss the derivation and proposals of private-level initiatives to revitalize the hydrogen economy.Through plenary meetings twice a year and working-level meetings four times a year ▲Private opinions such as policy directions and strategies ▲Suggestions on site difficulties (regulation, etc.) ) Proposal for improvement direction ▲ Takes on the role of supporting the establishment of a system and foundation to improve acceptance.
Prior to the forum’s inaugural general meeting, at a pre-ceremony forum with the theme of’The role of hydrogen economy to become a carbon-neutral society in 2050′ ▲The role of carbon neutrality and the hydrogen economy ▲The current status of hydrogen energy through big data ▲Global hydrogen mobility status and strategy ▲ A lecture was held on the policy to activate green hydrogen in Germany. The direction of the formation and operation of the forum was confirmed through the prior general meeting, and a total of 42 people including co-chairpersons and members were commissioned.
Former Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Lee Hee-beom and Choi Yeol-eul, the chairman of the Environmental Foundation, were co-chaired as chairpersons. The preparatory members consisted of experts in each field, including the National Assembly (5), research institutes (8), industry (13), NGO (1), academia (11), and advisory (2).
In particular, as industrial preparatory committee members, Kim Jong-gap, president of KEPCO, Chae Hee-bong, president of Gas Corporation, Lim Hae-jong, president of Gas Safety Corporation, Moon Jae-do, chairman of H2KOREA, Hwang Chang-hwa, president of District Heating Corporation, Jeon Young-hyun, president of Samsung SDI, Kong Young-woon, president of Hyundai Motor Company, Kim Young-tae, president of SPG, and Lee Chi-yoon, CEO of Deokyang Gas. CEO Yoo Byung-ok, head of POSCO’s hydrogen business, Jung-jun Yoo, vice chairman of SK E&S, Doosan Fuel Cell CEO Yoo Su-kyung, and Lee Gu-young, CEO of Hanwha Solutions, will participate.
The inaugural general meeting was held both online and offline to inform the public about the need and role of hydrogen economy and green hydrogen for the realization of carbon neutrality.
Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun, who attended the inaugural general meeting, said, “As the final destination of the Korean hydrogen economy is green hydrogen, the government will accelerate the realization of green hydrogen and achieve a great transformation into a’hydrogen powerhouse Korea’.” “Before the founding of the Green Hydrogen Forum I look forward to becoming a new vitality for the development of the global hydrogen economy.”
