Russian President Vladimir Putin’s anti-static Alexey Navalni is under pressure from the authorities. The day before, U.S. President Joe Biden expressed concerns about Navalni’s detention during a normal call with President Putin, but he is not concerned. In Russia this weekend, mass protests demanding the release of Navalni have been announced.

According to the Associated Press on the 27th (local time), the Russian police conducted a large-scale seizure and search of the apartments and offices of the Navalni family and their close associates. Navalni’s wife, Julia Navalni, broke the door when she refused to search while searching the apartment where she lived.

The anti-corruption foundation office supporting Navalni and the studio responsible for video production were also included in the search, the Associated Press reported. This studio has recently produced a video to reveal the content that’President Putin built a luxury palace on the Black Sea with a slush fund’.

According to Reuters on the day, Ivan Zdanov, head of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, announced through Twitter that Navalni’s younger brother Oleg Navalni was arrested by the police. Alleg was arrested on charges of violating infectious disease quarantine rules while police seized and searched Navalni’s apartment, and is expected to be detained for 48 hours.

Ryu Bopi Sobol, an anti-corruption foundation lawyer and opposition politician, was also detained by the police on charges of violating infectious diseases prevention rules. Videos and photos posted by Navalni on Twitter show police officers wearing masks and searching for residences and offices.

Navalni said, “This search seems to be related to the (government’s) allegations that the Navalni release protests on the 23rd violated the quarantine rules,” he said. “But the real reason is Putin’s mad fear.”

The Russian telecommunications authorities issued a statement on the 23rd and announced that they would impose fines on social media companies such as TikTok and Twitter in connection with the protests for the release of Navalni on the 23rd. This is because they did not block promotional materials that encouraged participation in the protests. The authorities added that they plan to impose a fine of up to 4 million rubles (about 58.8 million won).

Navalni’s supporters are scheduled to hold a rally on the 30th, despite the Russian government’s disapproval policy. On the 23rd, more than 40,000 people participated in the protests in 100 cities across Russia, and 3,500 people were arrested.

Meanwhile, the Guardian reported that the British Federal Security Administration (FSB) confirmed that the sky above a resort on the Black Sea coast that Navalni recently exposed as Putin’s luxury palace was set as a no-fly zone last summer. However, the FSB explained that it was set to protect the borders of the Black Sea coast, not to protect resorts. After Navalni’s revelation, Putin refuted that the resort was not owned by himself or his close associates.
