During the 21st general election, the prosecution requested a fine of 1.5 million won, which is equivalent to invalidating the election, to Rep. Cho Su-jin, who was accused of reporting a reduction in property.

The prosecution said at a hearing on the charges of violating the Public Official Election Act held by Rep. Cho at the hearing of the 11th Division of the Seoul Western District Law Criminal Agreement (Deputy Judge Moon Byung-chan), “The defendant knows the existence of bonds, such as continuously receiving interest for 500 million won It seems that there was,” he said.

At the time of the general election in April, Rep. Cho reported property of 1.85 billion won, but immediately after the election of the National Assembly, he reported 3 billion won, an increase of 1.1 billion won. The prosecution believed that Cho had falsely disclosed assets, such as deliberately omission of 500 million won bonds for the purpose of being elected.

Accordingly, Rep. Cho argued that it was caused by not knowing how to prepare the property holding status statement properly. In addition, he did not know that the omission of 500 million won in bonds between the deaths of the younger brother and the couple was the subject of reporting, and he explained that underreporting, missing spouse financial assets, and son deposits were all due to misunderstandings and mistakes.

In the final statement, Congressman Cho stole tears, saying, “Today is my child’s birthday, and I came to the court as a defendant.”

He said, “When I look back on myself, I have lived sincerely and honestly,” he said. “It happened while preparing for the nomination so urgently that the current work is more difficult and painful, but this is the opportunity to look back on myself with a more humble and low attitude. I will have.”

Representative Cho’s sentence will be held on the afternoon of the 27th of next month. If a member of the National Assembly is sentenced to a fine of 1 million won or more for violating the Public Office Election Act, he will lose his position.
