Introduction of smart and non-face-to-face inspection, implementation of 100% hydrogen safety, implementation of safety management agency pilot project
[에너지신문] The Korea Gas Safety Corporation prepares a plan for’new normal gas safety innovation’ that the public can feel, and promotes four innovation strategies and 53 initiatives for three years from 2021 to 2023.
This plan contains the management policy (Back to the Basic) of the President of Gas Safety Corporation Lim Hae-jong, the direction of gas safety management in the post-corona era, and the contents leading the hydrogen safety. This is a follow-up measure as the’Safety Management Innovation Plan’ promoted from 2018 to 2020 was successfully completed with the desired outcome.
According to the’New Normal Gas Safety Innovation’ basic plan, △accident reduction innovation △new normal innovation △hydrogen safety innovation △win-win and trust innovation, focusing on four innovation strategies, prevention measures, butane cans, CO poisoning accident prevention measures, smart and non. It consists of 53 initiatives, including the introduction of face-to-face inspection, big data-based accident prediction, fulfillment of responsibility for safety management for hydrogen charging and products, and technical support for localization of gas products.
The start of the new normal gas safety innovation and the entire process were conducted in accordance with the public’s perspective and fair and transparent procedures, reflecting the results of 223 cases received at the public idea contest from October 23 to November 9. The final task was decided through two reviews by an advisory committee composed of a majority of external experts. In addition, for future projects, an advisory committee is held every half year to check the performance.
◆ The main contents of’New Normal Gas Safety Innovation’ are.
Gas Safety Corporation is planning to fundamentally prevent accidents inadequate preventive measures by developing and distributing the’Huescock Overflow Blocking Safety Mechanism’ in order to significantly reduce human casualties.
While promoting the expansion of the distribution of butane can safety devices, it plans to further strengthen the CO poisoning accident prevention inspection and promotion. It is planning to expand non-face-to-face inspection such as smart inspection, image inspection, and non-face-to-face product certification review. In addition, it plans to develop and distribute’real-time risk prediction technology based on the movement of workers in gas and chemical facilities’ using smart technology.
In addition, it will introduce a big data-based real-time risk prediction and artificial intelligence (AI) accident management system, and provide safety management education services using virtual reality (VR) contents.

In order to establish autonomous safety management, a pilot project is planned to be implemented in Goryeong in Gyeongsangbuk-do and Sancheong in Gyeongsangnam-do next year regarding the establishment of a safety management agency system for LP gas facilities.
