[일렉트릭파워 박윤석 기자] Amidst the government’s mid- to long-term innovation strategies to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050, leading private energy companies have formed a joint consultative body to cope with the era of decarbonization.

Ten private companies in the energy industry launched the’Energy Alliance’ on April 6 and signed a business agreement to co-operate with carbon-neutral response and promoting energy conversion. SK E&S, GS Energy, POSCO Energy, Hanwha Energy, DL Energy, Doosan Heavy Industries, Hyundai Motors, Hyosung Heavy Industries, E1, and Hyundai Economic Research Institute participated in the launch of the Energy Alliance.

The Energy Alliance, which was launched led by private companies, was promoted to discuss the future direction of a carbon neutral policy and a sustainable energy industry in line with the global decarbonization trend. The inaugural general meeting is held in May and official activities are scheduled to begin.

The energy alliance is of great significance in that it has created a communication channel for the implementation of carbon neutrality with the private sector being the main pillar. SK E&S Vice Chairman Yoo Jeong-jun was elected as the first chairman.

“The world’s major countries and global companies are competing in infinite competition to preoccupy the era of carbon neutrality,” said Yu Jeong-jun, chairman of the Energy Alliance. I will try to build it.”

Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Sung Yun-mo, who attended the inauguration ceremony, expected that domestic companies will cooperate with each other on the carbon-neutral project to create new growth engines through the Energy Alliance.

Minister Seong said, “To move toward a carbon-neutral goal, preemptive technological innovation is needed in all energy fields.” “Energy system for decarbonization and electrification response in buildings, transportation, and industries closely related to energy. Innovation should also be considered.”
