Prime Ministers of major European countries have stepped up to vaccination against AstraZeneca (AZ)’s novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19). This is because there is concern that the rate of vaccination will be slowed due to the rejection of the public even though the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has reaffirmed its safety while the possibility of the third spread is raised.
According to ANSA news sources, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi revealed the AZ vaccination policy at a press conference held after a cabinet meeting on the night of the 19th (local time). “I haven’t made an appointment yet,” said Prime Minister Draghi. “Because my age group is allowed to get the AZ vaccine, I will get the AZ vaccine too.”
He also revealed that his son had received the AZ vaccine in the UK the day before.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel also announced at a press conference immediately after the federal government and 16 prime ministers meeting that they would get the AZ vaccine. Prime Minister Merkel declared, “I prefer to wait for my turn to come back, but whatever happens, I will be right.”
Prime Ministers who received actual vaccine injections and certified them also appeared one after another. Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French Prime Minister Jean Castex completed the first dose of the AZ vaccine side by side on the same day.
According to the BBC, after receiving the AZ vaccine at St. Thomas Hospital in London, Prime Minister Johnson said, “I literally didn’t feel anything. It was very good. It was very fast.” When Prime Minister Johnson was infected with Corona 19 last year, he was treated in the same hospital intensive care unit.
In Europe, reports of thrombosis occurred among people who received the AZ vaccine recently, which amplified anxiety, and then, there were several countries that temporarily stopped vaccinating certain manufacturing units of AZ or the entire vaccine.
EMA announced on the 18th that it had undergone a safety assessment and reached a scientific conclusion that the AZ vaccine was “safe and effective” the day before. According to ㅇ;, some European countries, such as Italy, Germany, and France, resumed AZ vaccination from this day.
