[일렉트릭파워 배상훈 기자]In order for Korea to move toward carbon neutrality, a place was prepared to check the matters related to the supply of offshore wind power and to listen to the voices of the site.

Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun visited the Tamna Offshore Wind Power Complex of Korea South-East Power on March 20. Hyang-Yeul Yu, President of Southeast Power Generation, President Gwang-Ho Woo, President of Tamna Offshore Wind Power, National Assembly Member Sung-Gon Sang, Vice Governor Choi Seung-Hyun, Jeju Executive Vice President, and Young-Joon Joo, Head of Energy Resources Division, Ministry of Industry were accompanied.

Tamna Offshore Wind Power Complex is Korea’s first commercial offshore wind power complex built with domestic technology and capital. Ten 3MW offshore wind power generation systems of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction are built here. It produced 81.2 GWh of electricity from September 2017 to September last year.

Prime Minister Chung received a report on the status of the Tamna Offshore Wind Power Project from Southeast Power at the site. Subsequently, they visited the offshore wind farm.

He also encouraged officials from Jeju Island, who are leading the Green New Deal, and executives and employees of Tamna Offshore Wind Power, which is evaluated as an exemplary offshore wind power example. In addition, I listened to the difficulties.

Prime Minister Chung said, “Korea is pursuing a major conversion to a system that combines solar, wind, and hydrogen through the Green New Deal and hydrogen economy with the goal of 2050 carbon neutrality. We will introduce a one-stop shop for wind power as soon as possible.”

“Jeju-do has the experience of wisely overcoming challenges that the land has not yet faced,” he said. “Please serve as a compass that suggests the direction for us to move toward carbon neutrality, such as sharing experiences with other local governments.”

Meanwhile, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has prepared a strategy for’Carbon Free Island Jeju 2030′ from 2012. It is also leading the Green New Deal, including the nation’s highest level of new and renewable energy supply and electric vehicle supply exceeding 20,000 units.

The Tamna Offshore Wind Power Complex is evaluated as an exemplary case for coexisting with the region and revitalizing the regional economy. In this regard, Southeast Power has returned the power generation profits to nearby villages. As the number of visitors to the wind farm increased, the tourism industry was also activated.

Based on the full support of local residents, the government is planning to promote the second-stage expansion project of Tamra Offshore Wind Power with a scale of 72MW. Although some may change, construction will commence in 2023 and completion is planned in 2025.
