Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun said on the 20th, “We will introduce a one-stop shop for wind power as soon as possible to drastically shorten the period of time for licensing and permitting wind power generation.”

Prime Minister Chung visited Jeju Tamna Offshore Wind Power Complex, the first commercial offshore wind farm in Korea, and said, “Our country is pursuing a major transformation into a system in which the sun, wind and hydrogen are harmonized through the Green New Deal and hydrogen economy, with the goal of 2050 carbon neutrality. “He said.

Prime Minister Jeong urged, “Jeju-do has the experience of wisely overcoming challenges that the land has not yet faced, so please share experiences with other local governments and serve as a compass that suggests the direction for us to move toward carbon neutrality.”

Prime Minister Chung’s visit to Jeju was designed to examine the issues related to the supply of offshore wind power, which is essential for Korea to move toward carbon neutrality, and to listen to the voices of the site.

The Jeju Tamna Offshore Wind Power Complex is a complex built with a facility capacity of 30MW by investing 165 billion won in project costs on the public water surface from Dumori in Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju to Geumdeung-ri. Construction began in April 2015 and was completed in September 2017. It produced 81.2 GWh of electricity from September 2017 to September 2020.

Since 2012, Jeju Island has been leading the Green New Deal by preparing the’Carbon Free Island Jeju 2030′ strategy, providing the nation’s highest level of new and renewable energy and surpassing 20,000 electric vehicles. The share of new and renewable energy facilities in Jeju is 31.8%, 1.8 times the national average, and the power generation share is 14.3%, which is 1.64 times.
