Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun on the 19th, urgently ordered the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to convene the Vaccination Specialized Committee quickly and clarify a clear position regarding the controversy on the safety of the AstraZeneca (AZ) novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine.

Prime Minister Chung said, “In a situation where the AstraZeneca vaccine needs to be expanded continuously, the public should not have any doubts or anxiety about the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine.” “Please review the evaluation data such as the Medicines Agency (EMA) and cases of adverse reactions in Korea with experts and clarify your position.

In addition, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety instructed to “conduct a professional and scientific evaluation on the possibility of causing blood clots of the AstraZeneca vaccine, and to disclose the results transparently.”

However, Prime Minister Chung said, “Considering the results of verification by international organizations and adverse reaction cases confirmed so far, the government believes that there is no reason to stop the AstraZeneca vaccination currently in progress in Korea.”

Earlier, the WHO and EMA announced the results of discussions such as the expert committee on the point that’AstraZeneca vaccination and the occurrence of blood clots are not related’.

WHO said in a statement on the 17th that ▶Thrombosis is a common disease irrespective of vaccination.▶The benefits of this vaccine outweigh the risks, and recommended that countries continue to be vaccinated. The EMA held a safety committee and concluded on the 18th that the vaccine was not associated with an increased overall risk of blood clots.
