SK·LG’s’battery dispute’ request for US intervention “does not fit the nationality”
On the 4th, Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun said that 10 employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) dealt with land for all of the former and current employees of the Ministry of Transportation, LH, and development corporations affiliated with local governments in relation to allegations of speculation in Gwangmyeong and Siheung new towns. He announced that he would conduct a complete investigation into the details. However, officials from the National Assembly’s Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, the Blue House, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government among local governments are not included in the survey.
Prime Minister Jeong said, “The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, LH, and local governments will investigate all executives and employees. We will also conduct investigations on public officials in charge of related departments in Gyeonggi-do, Incheon City, and local governments.”
He said, “The joint investigation team of the Prime Minister’s Office will complete a full investigation of (land) transactions as soon as possible,” he said. “First of all, we will complete the investigation for all employees of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and LH by next week.”
Prime Minister Jeong said, “It is unacceptable for an employee of a public institution, who should be committed to the stability of the common people’s housing, to abandon the public’s trust by improper conduct. It caused great concern,” and “I regret it.”
Prime Minister Chung explained that the reason for not being investigated by Seoul city officials was “because Gwangmyeong and Siheung districts are in Gyeonggi-do.” New cities in the metropolitan area are in Gyeonggi-Incheon and have nothing to do with Seoul.
Prime Minister Jeong said, “The National Rights and Interest Committee will also receive reports of speculation by public officials from today,” he said. “If it is confirmed that the use of internal information or violation of the code of ethics for public officials is confirmed, we will take strict measures, such as requesting an investigation.”
Regarding the possibility of expanding the investigation to other housing districts, he drew a line, “If a reliable report or complaint is raised, it can be reviewed, but it is correct to focus on the 3rd new town at the moment.”
Prime Minister Chung urged for an immediate resolution, saying that LG and SK demanded the US administration’s intervention in relation to the battery dispute, saying, “It is not conducive to national interests and does not meet national standards.”
