The Ministry of Education announced that it will deploy 54,000 personnel dedicated to school quarantine in preparation for the opening of school next month.
Deputy Prime Minister Yu Eun-hye and Minister of Education held an online meeting with the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the afternoon of the 21st to discuss ways to support school sites.
In order to prevent the educational gap caused by the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), the Ministry of Education has decided to expand classes from the new semester, focusing on the first and second grades of elementary school.
The Ministry of Education explained that 54,000 personnel dedicated to school quarantine will be allocated and 188.9 billion won will be given first for the first semester. After starting school, a special monitoring period is run for two weeks to analyze and prepare for the occurrence of suspicious symptoms for each school.
The pre-school self-diagnosis system will also resume on the 23rd, a week before the start of school. It was decided to provide preemptive free examination support for students entering the dormitory of recruiting schools nationwide.
In addition, the Ministry of Education announced that it has delivered “Guidelines for supplementing school quarantine guidelines,” containing common quarantine measures that schools must follow in order to prevent the influx of Corona 19 and countermeasures in case of emergency, such as occurrence of patients.
In club activities and private gatherings, it was also recommended to observe the ban on private meetings with more than 5 people, and to thoroughly comply with the quarantine rules outside the school.
In addition, the Ministry of Education plans to develop a “emotional and physical health diagnosis tool” for parents and implement it before school. From the beginning of school, pediatric psychiatrists and other specialists visit the school to provide support for students with mental health care vulnerable.
Deputy Prime Minister Yu Eun-hye said, “For students to be safe from Corona 19, cooperation at home is also very important,” he said. “I ask parents to further cooperate in child health guidance and practice.”
