The atmosphere is flowing toward the Tokyo Summer Olympics, which has been delayed for one year due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), this year.

The Associated Press said on the 3rd (Korean time), “The Olympics will not be postponed this year,” and predicted that the Tokyo Olympics will be held normally. Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Japanese government, and the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee confirmed their will to enforce the Olympics by publishing a’Playbook’ containing the guidelines for quarantine against Corona 19. Leaders of seven major countries (G7) also supported the holding of the Tokyo Olympics last month, empowering the Japanese government and the IOC.

Our athletes are also gradually preparing for the Olympic Games. It is known that the Korean Sports Association is in discussions with the government and the quarantine authorities to vaccinate against Corona 19 vaccination for Olympic athletes and leaders. The number of people to be vaccinated is about 1,000 people. It is reported that in addition to 157 athletes who have secured the right to participate in the Tokyo Olympics, athletes who have not yet secured the right to participate in the Olympics, officials dispatched to the Olympics, and athletes from training partners are reported to be included. The size of the Korean squad going to Tokyo is expected to be around 350.

Vaccination against Corona 19 is a recommendation, not mandatory for athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics. However, in order to prevent the spread of Corona 19, the Japanese government is recommending national athletes to come to Japan with vaccines in their own country, if possible.
