Poet Jeong-rye Choi passed away on the morning of the 16th. Age 66. Choi Si-in, who showed the world of prose poetry based on everyday life, received the Midang Literature Award in 2015, the Modern Literature Award (2007), the Baek Seok Literature Award (2012), and the Oh Janghwan Literature Award (2015).

‘Gaecheon-eun Dragon’s Hometown’, the winner of the Midang Literature Award, was a work that revealed the specialty of the deceased by twisting a specific story in a literary way and circling it. “Are you sorry for the dragon that has passed away from the stream? The deceased was born in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do and graduated from Korea University’s Korean Literature Department and the same graduate school. In 1990, he began his career as 『Contemporary Poetry』 and wrote a collection of poems such as 『The Tang Bamboo Grove in My Ear』, and 『Kangaroo is a Kangaroo and I am Old. In the summer of last year, after visiting a hospital with high fever, he was diagnosed with’blood cell phagocytosis lymphocytosis’, a type of immunodeficiency disease, and started treatment with anticancer drugs. Even during the struggle, he tied his works together and published 『Light Net』 (Changbi) as his last collection of poetry last November.

In a conversation with the editor of “Lightnet,” who became his last work, the deceased said, “It has been six months since I was in and out of the hospital, and I met various people I had never known before. In addition, he replied, “I think it is my job to love people, whether through poetry or through anything.” The deceased died of a cerebral hemorrhage while fighting the disease.
