A photo of a nun kneeling down and appealing to the Myanmar police to “don’t shoot at the protesters” is attracting attention as the crackdown against the people’s protesters of the Myanmar military, who caused the coup, is getting stronger day by day.

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, chairman of the Myanmar Bishops’ Church and former Archbishop of Yangon, posted several photos on his Twitter account on the 28th of last month (local time).

In this photo, police officers holding shields, a nun kneeling in front of him, and a nun crying with their hands were captured.

Cardinal Bo explained the photos as “sister Nu Taung, a sister from SFX, is begging the police not to shoot civilians protesting for freedom and human rights.”

“Now, the police are arresting, hitting and even shooting people,” he said. “Sister Nu Taung filled with tears and begged the police to stop arresting the protesters. Thanks to her, about 100 protesters were able to escape from the police. There was” he added.

She is known as Sister Ann Rosa Nu Thawng of the Apostolic Society of Saint Francis Javier (SFX) in the Diocese of Michina, northern Myanmar.

The photographs released by Cardinal Bo have been published in Catholic media, and have also been featured in L’osservatore Romano, a papal journal.

Cardinal Bo said on Twitter, citing reports from the Vatican News, that Sister Nut Taung said, “I am ready to give my life for the church, the people and the country.”

Currently, the military and police in Myanmar are gradually raising the level of repression against protesters. On the 28th of last month, at least 18 people were killed and about 30 people were injured.
