Six mutant viruses originating from South Africa have been reported in the Philippines, and concerns have been raised that the effectiveness of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine may be reduced.

According to Reuters, the Philippine Ministry of Health issued a statement on the 2nd and said, “There is no evidence that the mutant virus causes serious illness, but the pattern of mutations in the mutant virus suggests a higher infectivity.” said.

Three out of six cases of mutant virus infections that occurred in the Philippines, who started vaccinating against Corona 19 on the 1st, were local, and the other two were from Filipinos who returned from abroad. The other one is still being confirmed.

President Rodrigo Duterte has been in consultation with the Corona 19 vaccine manufacturer to secure 161 million doses of vaccine, but is experiencing difficulties.

The 600,000 doses of Sinobac vaccine donated by China and delivered on the 28th of last month are expected to be used for vaccination of military personnel.
