[아시아경제 나한아 기자] While the Philippine government announced plans to purchase a vaccine for China’s Sinovac novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), members of the ruling and opposition parties expressed their opposition.

According to local media in the Philippines, including Rappler, on the 25th (local time), the ruling party leader Juan Zubiri and the opposition party leader Franklin Drillon each issued a statement against the purchase of the vaccine. They are based on a Brazilian study showing that the synovac vaccine is only 50% effective.

On the 23rd (local time), the Butantang Research Center under the government of Sao Paulo, Brazil, conducted a phase 3 clinical trial of the Synovac vaccine, and revealed that the synovac vaccine prevention effect was more than 50%. However, the final clinical trial data were not disclosed.

Congressman Jubi-ri said, “We cannot accept a plan to secure a vaccine that has only 50% preventive effect,” he said. “It is funny that the possibility of getting the corona 19 virus after vaccination is 50-50.”

Rep. Drillon also stressed, “It is important to provide vaccines as quickly as possible, but safety and efficacy should be prioritized over anything else.” He said, “I wonder how to build public trust with a 50% effective vaccine.”

Earlier, the Philippines announced plans to purchase 25 million doses of vaccine from China’s Sinovac by March next year. The Philippine government is not only in contact with Sinobag, but also with several pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and Moderna and AstraZeneca.

Meanwhile, Turkey is planning to start vaccinating about 9 million people starting on the 28th, starting with health workers on the 28th, revealing that the vaccine’s preventive effect was 91.25% as a result of a clinical trial on the Synovac vaccine on the 24th.
