On the eve of Christmas, the server of the’Baemin Rider’s App’, an application used by riders of the nation of delivery (hereinafter referred to as the app), was bursting in response to busy food orders. It is due to the fact that riders in downtown Seoul connect all at once to perform the delivery during the peak time of the evening.

Restaurant owners who received orders in anticipation of a sparkling special amidst the difficulties in the aftermath of Corona 19 suffered damage from being unable to deliver delivery during the most important time. Riders wandered for four hours on the streets, and customers who had to wait for food for a long time without knowing the English language ruined the Christmas Eve dinner.

According to some restaurants in downtown Seoul on the 24th, the Baemin Riders app, a nationwide rider-only app for delivery from around 6 pm to 10 pm, did not work properly, so riders could not check the delivery destination. Ship riders can only check orderers and delivery addresses through the Riders app. It was a whopping 4 hours.

On Christmas Eve evenings, Seoul citizens, who could not eat out due to the implementation of the third step of social distancing, ordered food for delivery.

Accordingly, the owners who were not hiring their own Riders but entrusting the delivery service to Baemin Riders suffered great damage. This is because the delivery service was paralyzed for about two hours, and orders could not be received. Mr. A, the president of a chicken shop in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, said, “I received a lot of orders in a short time, but since I missed all of this, I think my child will be burned out.” “He said. Mr. B, the manager of a Western restaurant in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, said, “We stopped taking orders for a while because the overdue delivery was not digested.”

User complaints also exploded. Various social network services (SNS) posted a line of anger about delays in delivery due to computer errors in the Baemin app. Netizen C posted on Twitter, saying, “I ordered my favorite food for Christmas, but it’s been 2 hours no news.” And another netizen D said, “I ordered today’s dinner and it’s been an hour. I called because he didn’t come and said that the rider couldn’t find my address,” he wrote. “I finally canceled the order, but I felt ruined until my Christmas.”

This is not the first time that the Baemin app server has burst. There have been situations in which the app crashes several times in the past due to an unstable server. This situation occurred mainly when the first-come-first-served basis event was held, and the complaints of users increased.

The problem is that Baemin did not properly announce this. Orderers could know that the server had burst only when they made a call after waiting for food that didn’t come.

“The riders who were running with food in barrels are wandering on the street because the customer’s address has disappeared,” said Baemin Rider, head of the union leader Park Jung-hoon. “. In addition, Chairman Park wrote, “I have to notify the consumer that the server is bursting and delivery is not possible, but I just removed it from the item.”

Regarding this, an official of the elegant brothers said, “We made precautions such as expanding servers in anticipation of the number of users, but the number of users increased more than expected.” “We are discussing it.”

As business owners and riders who have not received orders during the prime time will continue to appeal for damage, it is noteworthy how the Baemin side will compensate.
