While some candidates for the Seoul Mayor’s by-election made a pledge of’TBS dismantlement’ or’Kim Eo-joon expulsion’, and the power of the people filed a complaint with the prosecution for violating the rules for deliberation on the TBS’Let’s do (1)’ campaign The association (Chairman Jeon Seong-gwan) criticized this behavior as “pressing media”.
On the 7th, the PD Federation issued a statement saying, “Do not infringe on the independence and publicity of TBS,” and criticized “the attack by the political power has crossed the line.”
The PD Association said, “It is a tremendous repression of the media,” saying, “It is a devastating media suppression” over the pledge of’dismantling TBS’ and’withdrawal of host Kim Eo-jun’ and the Power of the People Media Special Committee accused the TBS host of violating the Public Official Election Act. He criticized it as a treatment that explicitly revealed the nature of the entire vested group.
“The days of Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye drove a lot of conscientious journalists out of work, mobilized expedient methods and preferences to give the far-right newspaper a final piece, curb entertainment programs to dry the seeds of criticism and satire, and report the reduction of the Sewol issue to public broadcasters. He strongly criticized that he was the descendant of the enemy forces that put pressure and made the bereaved to shed blood.”

The PD Federation referred to independent lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo, who made a statement as a candidate for the 2017 presidential election and said, “If we become president, we will eliminate the SBS 8 o’clock news and two final episodes.” “Before the by-election, those who want to tame the media to their taste I strongly condemn the behavior.”
Regarding the controversial TBS’Let’s do (1)’ campaign, the PD Federation said, “This campaign means’Let’s achieve 1 million subscribers by gathering the small power of one subscriber’. He said, “I cannot stop bitterness in this result, in which the pure self-reliance efforts of local public broadcasters were frustrated because of unjust pressure from the government.”
Earlier, the People’s Power claimed that the’Let’s Do (1) Do’ campaign broadcasted on TBS Radio violated the Broadcasting Act and the rules for deliberation on election broadcasting. It is a campaign reminiscent of a specific party.
The PD Federation said, “This campaign, which started in November last year, is far from the’pre-election campaign’ just at that time. “Selling it as a’pre-election campaign’ itself turned the media into favor of itself ahead of the election. He added, “I have an impure intention to make it happen.”
The PD Federation also criticized former lawmaker Tae-seop Geum, who said, “I will ask the citizens to ask if I will be leaving” against Mr. Kim Eo-jun, the host of TBS’Kim Eo-jun’s News Factory.’
The PD Federation said, “The remarks of former lawmakers contradict their own beliefs that’politics should not affect the media’. The fact that a candidate for a public office put the existence of broadcasters and programs in their mouths is impure political It’s enough to buy suspicion of intention.”
“There may be disagreements about Mr. Kim Eo-jun’s political disposition or the way he raises issues. However, it is a fascist idea that is not suitable for a democratic society to talk about’abolition’ or’withdrawal’ because they do not like them.”
PD Federation said, “There are many Seoul citizens who support’Kim Eo-jun’s News Factory’. From their perspective, it played a role in correcting to some extent the biased reports of the media on major issues and the resulting information imbalance. It is a program that has become the #1 listening rate with the support of listeners and subscribers who responded to this.”
The PD Federation said, “If the contents of the program are a problem, it is reasonable to request correction according to democratic procedures such as seeking the judgment of the Korea Communications Standards Commission or the Media Arbitration Committee.” It is difficult to avoid the accusation of media oppression to promote it.”
On the same day, the TBS Association of the Korean PD Association also issued a statement and responded to the accusation of the people’s power against the’Let’s do one’ campaign, saying, “The power of the people who put a political frame on the promotion campaign with a mysterious logic should be ashamed.” This is a terrible media intervention of power, and it is an illegal act of politically using broadcasting.”
