Candidate Park Hyung-jun, the power of the people, was found to have omitted unregistered buildings in the process of reporting property, and the NEC is checking whether it violates the Public Officials Election Act. Candidate Park clarified, “It is a mistake to omit it due to the building of the Gijang Museum of Art.”
NEC “Omission of property report is correct, we are grasping the process”
On the 24th, an official from the Busan Election Commission <오마이뉴스>In a telephone conversation with him, he said, “A related report has been received, and we are checking the details of whether the property has been falsely recorded for the purpose of winning in accordance with Article 250 of the Public Official Election Act.”
According to the NEC, Park’s property increased by 200 million won from the original report. This is because they applied for a change, saying that the building in Cheonggwang-ri, Iwang-myeon, Gijang-gun, in the name of the spouse, was missing. Candidate Park reported only 765㎡ of land (land) in Cheonggwang-gil, but deleted it and revised his possessions to neighborhood facility buildings of 152.95㎡, 138.92㎡, and land area of 765㎡. Following the change, the wealth of Candidate Park and his spouse increased from 4,584,754,000 won to 48.215 million won, an additional 235.4 million won.
Currently, this part is reflected in the candidate information provided by the Central Election Commission and is being disclosed. An official of the NEC said, “The contents described in the initial report process have been deleted and corrected.”
Earlier, MBC reported, “After the building was built, there were suspicions that someone was using it for the fourth year without even registering it.” Park’s spouse, Cho, bought the area several times between 2015 and two years ago, and it was explained that it was one of them. MBC said, “Even after construction was completed in 2017, registration was delayed for the fourth year, and property reports were not made.”
As controversy arose over the report, Busan Mayor Roh Jeong-hyun of the Progressive Party immediately visited the NEC and requested an investigation. Candidate Roh, who received an investigation request on the day, demanded punishment, saying, “The loss of property of expensive unregistered buildings revealed at the time the candidate registration was completed is intentional. This violates Article 250 of the Public Officials Election Act.”
In addition, voices of criticism emerged from the Democratic Party as well. Democratic Party Standing Chairman Kim Tae-nyeon said at a meeting of the Central Election Commission that day, “Another suspicion has increased. I wonder whether it is necessary to investigate the judicial institutions rather than campaigning for elections.”

Progressive Party Requested Investigation… Democratic Party “More Suspicion”

The missing site refers to the museum that Candidate Park mentioned at an emergency press conference on the 19th. At the time, Candidate Park said, “I have an intention to do public service by establishing an art museum in Cheonggwang-ri, Gijang with my spouse.” A former spokesman also refuted the nature of the site, saying, “This is the site prepared for the construction of the Kim Jong-Hak Museum. It is being used as a painter’s studio and has not been sold. We will continue to build the museum.”
