On the 17th, President Moon Jae-in visited the late Baek Ki-wan, head of the Institute for Unification Issues. This is the fourth time I visited Vinso while in office. President Moon sent the deceased saying, “I wish you could fly much more freely.”

According to the Blue House, President Moon visited the vacant house of the deceased at the funeral hall of Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul that morning, commemorated the deceased and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. The bereaved family has a wife Kim Jeong-suk, a daughter Won-dam (professor of Chinese Language and Chinese Studies at Sungkonghoe University), Mi-dam, Hyun-dam, and a son Il. President Moon looked at the bereaved family and remembered the deceased, saying, “I have met (Senior Ki-wan Baek) many times over the past year, and have had conversations quite a bit, and have been together at the meeting site.”

Wondam, the eldest daughter, said, “My father was the most heartbreaking for the Sewol ferry. The responsibility for the rescue of the Coast Guard leadership for the rescue failure was innocent and sad at the first trial.” President Moon expressed his sympathy, saying, “The government is doing all the extra measures it can take, and it’s a pity that the facts are still not working well in the direction the bereaved wants.”

President Moon also watched a video of a request for unification that Paik Ki-wan left to President Moon. In the video, the teacher said, “I want to welcome all of these attitudes and methods at the end. I hope you will go well as you think.” I hope you have the enlightenment that you stand above the context.” This video was delivered to President Moon.

Only a small number of personnel were accompanied by the condolence on this day, including Secretary General Yoo Young-min, Protocol Secretary Tak Hyun-min, and 1st Assistant Secretary Shin Ji-yeon. It is reported that the condolences were scheduled late the afternoon of the previous day. The condolence was held for 10 minutes from 9:17 am.

This is the fourth time President Moon has visited Vinso while in office. The first condolence was when I visited the joint incense center damaged by the fire in Miryang in January 2018. In January 2019, he visited the Japanese military comfort women victim and peace and human rights activist Kim Bok-dong, Granny Binso, and in December of the same year, he visited a joint ceremony for the fire helicopter crash. In June 2019, when Mrs. Lee Hee-ho, the wife of former President Kim Dae-jung, passed away in June 2019, after returning to Korea after a tour of three northern European countries, he visited the sister-in-law in Donggyo-dong, Seoul, where the deceased stayed, and comforted the bereaved family.
