Overwhelming controversy arose over the performance of KBS x National Ballet’We, Again: The Ballet’

Criticism is pouring into’We, Again: The Ballet’, which was planned by the National Ballet (Director Sujin Kang) and KBS to deliver “a message of consolation and hope to the Republic of Korea tired of Corona 19”.

‘We, Again: The Ballet (CP Yoo Woong-sik, director Ko Se-jun)’ broadcast on KBS 1TV on the 24th was depicted showing outdoor ballet performances at 7 major domestic attractions.

‘Swan Lake’ performance at the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) in Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do,’The Swan of the Swan’ at Taepyeong Salt Farm in Sinan, Jeollanam-do, and’Seasons; ‘Spring’,’Pirates’ in Seoul Ham Park,’Sleeping Beauty’ in Hongcheon Ginkgo Forest,’Henan Seolheon’ in Hadong Park, Gyeongnam, and’Robbing’ in Culture Station Seoul 284.

Kang Soo-jin, the head of the National Ballet Team, who appeared at the beginning of the video, said, “It was a difficult time for everyone because of the crisis and our daily life collapsed.” We invite you to the Ballet Forest, dreaming of the day that Korea dances again.”

Finally, the video behind the National Ballet was followed. There was a picture of repeated practice and the moments when I had to fight the cold to the extent that my toe shoes were on the asphalt.

However, contrary to the plan’s intention, there was a controversy about’busking dancers’.

In the video on the National Ballet’s YouTube channel, negative comments account for the overwhelming majority of all comments.

One user wrote, “Don’t try to go beyond the limit or wrap it with good words.” Another user wrote, “If you wear such clothes in asphalt or in a cold place, you will not damage the bodies of dancers who have arthritis and all kinds of musculoskeletal diseases in the first place?” I commented.

Some comments were mixed with criticism, saying, ″This is not passion, but abuse,” or “Korea still knows that breaking a person’s body is a fighting marriage”, and “a project where I don’t know what’s different from hard pornography.”

One user criticized it as’out of date’ planning intention and direction in a long comment.

I frowned throughout the video. Far from being energetic, just watching the video makes my flesh ache and cold….and sad. What sin are the members of? I only think of abuse. Don’t wrap a painful presentation as hope, beautiful. Even if the situation is difficult, isn’t it necessary to throw people into the harsh environment?

I want the dancers to dance on a safe stage. Even if I felt a thirst for culture and art, I didn’t want to see a scene like this. Even if the public says that art is in this form, I would like to say that now is 2020. There is neither fun nor inspiration. If I had first thought that people were precious, I wouldn’t have been told to dance in a place like that….

In the video posted on the KBS YouTube channel, there were many negative comments, such as “really sadistic”, “a video taken by changing people”, and “not beautiful, but uncomfortable”.

The National Ballet said that it considered both the health and safety of the dancers and that it was carried out with the consent of the members who participated in the project. In addition, he added that the scene where the dancer was sweating and trembling appeared on the broadcast, but it was not at a dangerous level, and that in the scene of ballet on the asphalt, the jump that was originally supposed to be removed was added.

An official said, “Some netizens commented that they overused the dancers, but there were not many such contents, and there were many reactions that were rather good.”

However, criticism continues on online such as YouTube, social media, and internet communities.

One user introduced a video of an outdoor performance recently conducted by the American ballet company’Post:Ballet’, which was established in 2009, saying that it is’another example of outdoor ballet video production.’

In this video, all ballerinas are wearing shoes that look like sneakers instead of toe shoes. The average temperature in December this year in Alameda, California, where the performance took place, is about 13.8 degrees Celsius.
