[뉴스웍스=이숙영 기자] Blizzard Entertainment released a video introducing two Korean themed skins prepared for the Overwatch Korean community on its official YouTube channel on the 4th.

In the new year of 2021, two new Korean-themed skins will be added to the game:’Tiger Hunter’, an ash skin, and’Machi,’ an eco skin. Both skins can be obtained through the’Year of the White Cow’ Lunar New Year event starting on February 5. With the addition of this skin, there are a total of 10 Korean themed skins in the Overwatch game.

The tiger hunter is the result of reinterpreting the characteristics of a profession from the old days in the language of Overwatch. Externally, this skin embodies the appearance of a tiger hunter through a weapon, as well as a belt or knee protector worn by Ash.

Principal concept artist Peter Lee said, “The tiger hunter, the representative shooter of the era, is known as the’warmer’ of the Joseon Dynasty and prevented the people from getting angry with the tiger. I don’t think there are many,” he explained through the video.

As a symbolic element representing the New Year’s Day, the’magpie’, which experimentally produced Echo’s differentiated flying ability and the gorgeous feeling of feathers, was also introduced. Through the contrast of black and white, and the feeling of’Jobawi’ and’Liquor (multiple strands of thread)’, the image of the magpie was saved and an attempt was made to approach traditional Korean culture. This skin is also called’Kkachi’ in other countries.

Hak-Sung Lee, a senior technical artist who participated in the background video of Korean skin production for 3 consecutive years, said, “I will not stop trying to promote the oldness and beauty of Korean history and culture to the world through Overwatch contents” I will also listen to,” he said.

The two developers emphasized this year’s New Year’s greetings, “I hope you always remember that Korea is very special to Blizzard.” Delivered the message.
