Chuncheon City delivers 25,000 copies to Ethiopian veterans
On the 25th, a thank-you message was delivered along with 20 pictures from the local Ethiopia via a mobile phone from the staff of the International Exchange Team, the Office of External Cooperation in Chuncheon City, Gangwon. The message from the Korean War Veterans Association in Ethiopia said,’I think veterans will use it well. There was a greeting saying’Thank you for the mask’.
In addition, the 20 photos showed elderly Korean war veterans visiting the Veterans Association and receiving masks, visiting the home of a veterans with discomfort and delivering masks.
This mask was sent by Chuncheon City to the Korean Embassy in Ethiopia on December 9 last year. Chuncheon City sent 25,000 masks to Ethiopia on the news that the veterans of the Korean War had no masks and were struggling. Ambassador Kang Seok-hee of the Korean Embassy in Ethiopia, who received the mask, met with the Veterans Association President on December 30 of the same year and delivered the mask. Subsequently, the Veterans Association distributed masks to veterans of the Korean War starting on the 5th.
Eom Hye-jeong, chief of international exchange at Chuncheon City, said, “I sent a mask to help a little bit in the situation where the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) is in epidemic around the world. We will continue to support various types of support including material support in the future. I will try my best to overcome the problem.”

The exchange between Chuncheon City and Ethiopia has been around for a long time. After establishing a sisterhood relationship in 2004, it provided 1020 used computers, used fire engines, ambulances, and medical equipment at medical centers until 2005. In 2006, the Veterans Society Hall and the War Veterans Memorial were built in Ethiopia, and since 2014, 300 books have been supported every year. In 2016, along with the cost of building a nursery school, it delivered $40,000 in comfort for victims of the collapse of the landfill.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Ethiopian military participation in the Korean War. During the Korean War, Ethiopia sent 6037 troops from three battalions to Korea (1951), participating in a total of 253 battles. At that time, many soldiers, including 121 killed and 536 wounded, were killed or injured.
Jecheon City, North Chungcheong Province, received a New Year’s letter and 4,800 masks from Hualien County, Taiwan, a sister city. In a letter sent by Hualien site head Xu Jeon-wu, “I cannot exchange face-to-face with Corona 19, but I convey my heart with warm interest and regards.” “Corona 19 ended as soon as possible and continued exchange to strengthen friendship, culture, agriculture, and education. ·We hope to expand exchanges in many fields such as tourism.”
Hualien County, Taiwan sends 4800 masks to Jecheon City

Earlier in July of last year, Hualien County of Taiwan sent quarantine supplies to Jecheon City, including 3,000 mask covers, 500 protective glasses, 410 protective clothing, and 25,000 pairs of medical gloves. Jecheon Mayor Lee Sang-cheon said, “Thank you for the deep friendship of Hualien Prefecture for sending quarantine supplies twice. As if the land hardens after rain, I look forward to promoting various and practical exchange projects after overcoming Corona 19.” said. Jecheon City and Hualien County established a sisterhood relationship in 2013 and have been actively engaged in exchanges such as international art exchange exhibitions.
Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, delivered 20,000 masks each to four international sister-friendship cities suffering from the spread of Corona 19 in October last year. The supported cities are Bandung, Indonesia, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Toluca, Mexico, and Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.
Mayor Juan Rodolph Sanchez Gomes Toluca, who received the mask, said in a video call with Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young, “I used the mask sent by the city of Suwon for low-income citizens,” and “Thank you for considering our city as a true brother.”
Mayor Yeom said, “As we were given masks during difficult times, we provided masks to sister cities in countries where the spread of Corona 19 is serious in terms of international quarantine cooperation.”
