“Only the top 0.1% rental income is KRW 1 trillion… More unearned income tax.”

Rental income of about 930 million won per person

It was found that 1,100 people, who belong to the top 0.1% of real estate rental income, exceed 1 trillion won a year. It means that they took 930 million won per person.

According to data received from the National Tax Service by Yang Gyeong-sook, a member of the National Assembly Planning and Finance Committee and the Democratic Party, in 2019, 1.93,550 people reported 20,702.5 billion won in real estate rental income. Compared to the 850,6874 reporters reporting 17,606 trillion won in 2015, the number of reporters increased by 237,000 and the reported amount increased by 3.6 trillion won, respectively. It is analyzed that rental income of less than 20 million won per year in 2019 is included in the taxation target for this increase, and the increase in reports has had an effect.

In terms of real estate rental income, the income gap among reporters was found to be large. In 2019, the reported income of 1093 people, which is the top 0.1% of reporters of real estate rental income, was 1,132 trillion won, or 930 million won per person. The 1,935 people in the top 1% earned 3,371.3 billion won in real estate leases, and the top 10% 109354 people earned 9,9375 billion won.

The average rental income per capita is 18.93 million won, which is only half of the average annual salary (total salary) of 3,77,000 won for all 19.17 million earned income earned by the year-end settlement of the same year. Among those reporting rental income, the median section was identified as 104.4 billion won.

Rep. Yang Kyung-sook said, “More efforts are needed to improve equity between tax sources so that the society does not value unearned real estate income more than workers who earn money by working with blood sweat.”
