LG Group announced on the 26th that it will participate in the world’s largest light-off campaign’Earth Hour’, which contains the meaning of environmental protection.

Earth Hour is the world’s largest climate crisis response campaign hosted by the World Natural Fund (WWF), a non-profit nature conservation organization. Since 2007, the lights will be turned off for an hour starting at 8:30 pm on the last Saturday of March every year. Its purpose is to share the seriousness of climate change and contribute to energy saving and carbon emission reduction.

At the 15th event this year, the LG Group will be held in 20 office buildings and business sites nationwide, including LG Twin Tower in Yeouido, Seoul, LG Gwanghwamun Building, LG Seoul Station Building, Magok LG Science Park, Yongsan LG Uplus Headquarters, and Sangam LG Hellovision Headquarters. Conduct a light-out event.

An official from the LG Group said, “To sympathize with the seriousness of climate change and to strengthen our commitment to reducing carbon emissions, we will participate in this campaign. “He said.

LG Group affiliates are accelerating the realization of carbon neutrality as part of ESG (environmental, social, governance) management. Carbon neutral means making the actual amount of carbon emissions ‘0’ by matching the amount of carbon emitted by a company with the amount of carbon it absorbs and removes.

LG Electronics plans to reduce the carbon generated in the product production stage by 2030 to 50% compared to 2017, while at the same time realizing carbon neutrality with carbon credits acquired through carbon reduction activities from outside.

To cope with climate change, LG Chem announced a plan to replace the electricity used in all business sites around the world with renewable energy such as solar power and wind power for the first time among Korean companies. The plan is to reduce carbon emissions in 2050 to 10 million tons, which is the level of emissions in 2019.

LG Energy Solutions currently uses 100% of the electricity consumed for battery production at its factories in Poland and the United States as renewable energy. It plans to expand the use of 100% recycled air to factories in Ochang and Nanjing, China by 2025.
